Questions from Chapter 3 (Torres Chapter)

1. How can we remove the inequalities that we face in capitalist societies from our school?  p.51

  • This is a big problem that we are facing in my school and a lot of the behaviors listed in thesis 1 are occurring and need to be visited / improved.
2. How can we can the public's view of schools as a "babysitting service" as stated on page 52? What are the reasons that people view some schools like this and most importantly how can we improve our schools to change opinions on this matter?

  • This is located on p.52 in thesis #4
3. Why are we letting states change the schools from the outside? Why do the educators (inside people) not have more of a say?  How can we change this?

  • Without a say and people who may not have a great deal of experience with the educational system (besides going to school), how are we ever going to push forward is my question.
4. How can we harness the power of social media to bring our schools back to life, and build relationships that matter again? And how can we bring back the power of the written word? p.55

5. With teacher unions protecting the member's interest first, and not looking at what is the best for the children, how will we ever be able to get the best teachers in the classroom? Without a reform in how the unions operate, are we doing what is best for the children? Isn't schooling for children? If so wht can we do to put the children first?
